Today was a lovely day. Gently hung over and oh-so-knackered, we lounged in the park for as log as time would allow, mooching and people watching, and generally enjoying the spectacular and totally unseasonal sunshine. Then it was time to go home, and I thought I would just pop into the Barnado’s on the way. You know, for a quick look around.

5 minutes later, I left with these. Astonishing vintage heels that I can’t walk in to save my life. Sheer, dramatic, eye catching. I simply couldn’t leave them behind. Aren’t they incredible?

What I Wore Vintage Apple Print Dress
Sorry about the pose, and the nobbly knees!

I felt quite chuffed with my outfit today so thought I would share it with you guys. Most of my posts seem to be images and very little writing at the moment, so why change things?! Anyway, this was a homage to our new spring/summer – long may this mini “heat”wave carry on!

OK. I am in love. I have fallen hard and fast. Everytime I look at the object of my love, my stomach flips over. I get tingles down my spine, my breath speeds up, and it is all I can do not to stand and stare, and stare, and stare.

With no further ado, let me introduce to you, Bevan. To be more precise, the Bevan knee high 1970s style boot from Topshop!

Bevan!

So elegant. So lean. So incredibly slender. These boots have absurd heels, but good god were they sexy on. Sex in shoe form, essentially!

I can’t really afford to shell out £50 on a mix-tape watch, even if I do know someone who would love it (it would go perfectly with the high tops and suchlike he wears!). However, I had to share – this retro men’s watch is just brilliant! I saw it on a blog a few months ago, and when I saw it pop up on eBay I may have inadvertently bounced up and down with excitement.

As a total aside, does anyone else have a list of words that somehow manage to find their way into your vocabulary, but which then end up really annoying you? For some reason recently I have been using “Awesome” and “Fabulous” a lot – and it is getting to the point where I need some replacement words. Any suggestions?

Black Dolce & Gabbana Pencil Skirt (Lace)

Black Dolce & Gabbana Pencil Skirt (Lace)

You see this beauty? Delicate black lace, thick black satin band around the top? This is currently on sale for about £200, and is by D&G. The best thing? This skirt is pretty much an exact replica of a vintage Frank Usher lace skirt, which I just bought on eBay for a grand total of £3. Yup, less than a fiver, and in perfect condition too! Now, what to wear this lovely lovely item with?

Beautiful Floral Ball Gown

Beautiful Floral Ball Gown

I am feeling kind of like partying today. Not clubbing, but dancing, and eating canapés, and sipping blush champagne from tall fluted glasses. As such, this heavy winter ball gown is just the sort of thing that would help me to do that. Although I would still need to acquire the ballroom, the canapés, and the other guests. But hey. This stunning and unusual floral ball gown is £54.99, and has 6 days to go – and I wish it was mine!

Why Stockings are Sexy July 22, 2010

I think stockings are brilliant brilliant inventions. Not only are they practical, but they are incredibly incredibly sexy. Any man who gets a woman in stockings tends to think himself very lucky indeed, and I have been trying to work out exactly why this is?

(Image borrowed from here)

You see, a lot of the blogs I read are all about vintage fashion. The pin-up models and burlesque artists who inhabit these online spheres are svelte beauties, with porcelain skin and the type of long limbs that I could only dream of. And I have long legs! These are the girls who have taken stockings and suspenders from the realm of the tacky, into the downright sensual. But what is it about these part-function part-fashion accessories that make so many people weak at the knees?

  1. The suspense
  2. Excuse the decidedly dodgy pun, but I think the suspense that accompanies stockings is one of the reason for their endless popularity. The fact that you can see the fabric clinging to the turn of an ankle, the swell of a calf, but that you can’t see any more than that. And then, from a teasing point of view, there is the sliding of a slip up the thigh, revealing the lacy top and the line of the suspender, way before you reach anything more indecent.

  3. The look
  4. Yup, I reckon aesthetics have a lot to do with it. The suspender belt accentuates the hips in just the right way, emphasising the curves from buttocks to boobs more than a simple pair of lacy french knickers. The stockings themselves smooth the surface of your legs into something eminently touchable, and the suspenders elongate them, making them look like they go on and on. I also reckon there is something about the cheeky suspender over your bottom that makes this a very popular accessory.

Do you reckon there is all there is to it? Is the greatest sexiest item of clothing in the world really sexy for such incredibly simple reasons?!

Studding Ruffled Vintage 60s Dress

Oh my. That was all I thought when I saw this dress. Oh my. First off, it is beautiful. Yes, completely over the top, but somewhat wonderful at the same time, thanks to the dual layers of sheer pink and purple ruffles, and the figure flattering shape. Secondly, it is exactly my size. Exactly. It is almost like it is meant to be. Except oh, wait, this dress costs $118. And I can’t afford $118. So, for now, it will have to remain out of my reach! Darn skintness…

1920s fashion seems to have been accidentally popping up all over the interwebs this week, and the case wasn’t any different with my searches on eBay. All these beautiful antique creations kept coming up for sale and I couldn’t afford any of them. It isn’t fair, so I am putting them on here in the hopes that one of you will buy them instead!

1920s Fashion Cream Lace Minidress

1920s Fashion Cream Lace Minidress

First up, one of the super short 1920’s hemlines that made those Flappers seem quite so risque. I love lace at the moment anyway, but even the beauty of this origianl piece can’t make me part with a mighty £225!

Beautiful Satin 1920s Fashion Party Dress

Beautiful Satin 1920s Fashion Party Dress

This one is even more expensive, ringing in at a terrifying £665, despite the fact it has a few stains and size of age. However, this supreme example of the 1920s fashion dropped waist deserves to be showcased, if not necessarily bought.

Vintage 1920s Fashion 30s Gatsby Red Coral Sheer Organza Dress

Finally, what need I say about this floaty organza dress? It is stunning, sexy and utterly representative of a bias cut flamboyance that we have long left behind. I want it, and if I had a posh event the $100 would seem slightly more acceptable to me!

Art Deco Poste Mistress Heels, size 4

Art Deco Poste Mistress Heels, size 4

I haven’t done a Semi-Daily eBay post for a while – I have been a bit distracted with buying many things on the fabulous auction site for myself. However, today I decided to get back in the flow, and what a way to start! These beautiful Poste Mistress heels popped up in the vintage section, and they are definitely vintage inspired – the duck egg blue is so reminiscent of the early decades of last century, and that amazing copper ribbon design gives it that Art Deco edge. Alas, considering that they only cost a miniscule £4.99 currently, they are a UK Size 4, and far far too small for me. Anyone care to buy them instead?
