Biker Chick January 4, 2010

My style aspirations have been getting a little edgy of late. Considering that I still wear a strange combination of vintage and floaty happy modern things, this step in the direct of smooth black leather and gleaming studs has come as somewhat of a surprise. I have all of a sudden found myself coveting (what I used to admire, I now want!) Nubby Twiglet’s fabulous wedge heels, drooling over the wild biker clothing as featured on Elena’s blog, and generally trying to repress that feeling that anything with aggressive looks is actually beautiful. I want to combine french lace with twenty zips, wear floaty florals with a biker jacket, and listen to metal at high volume.

In no particular order, some of my current lusts are (click on the pictures to go through to the items):

Zipped Leather Jacket

Preen Leather Trousers

Fabulous Preen Slouchy Leather Trousers

Dr Martens Patent Heeled Boots

Acne Wedge Boots

Having undergone this style revolution, realised that leather jackets rarely suit me, ended up buying very conservative outfits and eventually settled on a happy medium, it really got me thinking. Is it trends that subconsciously influence our temporary obsessions? Does each obsession only make up a tiny part of our final style? Am I fickle, a fashion-house’s dream, or am I indeed normal, following fashions by accident like many people do.

Do you find that you undergo fashion overhauls, where the substance of what you identify with changes, either minimally or extremely?

Is, indeed, this part of the force that makes fashion the powerhouse it is today?

Oh, and just so you don’t worry, I have currently quelled the urge with the French Connection dress from ASOS.com, as stunning bargain at less than £15 and perfect for the zip wearing business look and am so desperately trying to achieve. I cannot wait for it to arrive!

I love those pegged pants!

I find that when I have a hankering for a certain style of clothing, I want to wear it all the time. Currently it is full-skirted dresses under military-style jackets [which, funny enough, I also picked up from Nubby Twiglet!], so I’m trying to restrain myself from going out and buying like seven of them on eBay. 🙂

Congrats on your IFB inclusion this week – so worth it. 😀

Hi Amanda. Thank you for the comment 🙂 I love military jackets too, especially combined with a feminine vintage 50’s style look. Lovely!

That ebay store is SO good. How did you find it?
I’ve been seduced by this look for a while now… it’s a struggle but eventually you will be won over completely. For the better, I think. 🙂

Hi Adele. I found it from http://ebayfashionaddict.wordpress.com, she is the eBay guru and well worth a look!

I actually think that mixing the two styles actually serves your style more. Having 1 style completely, in my opinion makes it too gimmicky.

Keep it up!
